Old Joe Krantz was created by the late Bob Runowski and named for the man who taught him to smoke a pipe: his grandfather. The blend is a straightforward American Burley mixture with no flavoring, no casing, and no apology. Dark and cube-cut Burley form the core, driving the earthy, nutty, and slightly woody character that defines the blend, while red Virginia adds sweetness and body to keep the Burley from becoming austere. Perique seasons the background with its characteristic peppery spice and dark fruit depth. It is the kind of tobacco that asks nothing of you except that you slow down and pay attention. Coarse ribbon cut. Medium in body, notably generous in nicotine.
