Tabak Especial began in 2003 as a collaboration with Kahlúa, one of the earliest experiments in coffee-infused premium cigars. By 2007 the line had evolved into its own identity under the Tabak Especial name, and the Dulce wrapper option was established as the lighter expression alongside the darker Negra. The blend took over five years to develop before launch, with the coffee infusion sourced from the volcanic mountains of Jinotega and Matagalpa in northern Nicaragua, the same region where Drew Estate has operated since 1998. The Dulce uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut shade wrapper over a Sumatran binder and Nicaraguan long-leaf Criollo filler, all slowly infused with fair trade Nicaraguan estate coffee. The coffee character reads as café con leche rather than espresso, lighter and creamier than the Negra version. Each size features an open shaggy foot. Mild to medium in body. Made at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in Estelí, Nicaragua.
