Cuba Aliados
By Cuba Aliados
Rolando Reyes Sr. founded Cuba Aliados in Havana in 1945, built it into one of the most recognized names in premium cigars, and lost his factory to the Castro government in the early 1960s. He spent the next several decades chasing the same terroir across New Jersey, Miami, the Dominican Republic, and eventually Honduras, where the brand remained until his death in 2012. Oliva acquired the trademark in 2021 and made an intentional choice in deciding who would relaunch it: Ernesto Perez Carrillo, who first crossed paths with Reyes in Miami decades earlier, and Julio Eiroa, from whom Reyes sourced tobacco during the Honduras years. The name Aliados, Spanish for allies, made the casting feel less like marketing and more like biography. The Cabinet Edition is Carrillo's contribution, a limited release produced at his Tabacalera La Alianza factory in the Dominican Republic. The blend uses an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper aged five years, a Nicaraguan binder, and long-leaf filler from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. Five sizes, 20-count boxes. Medium in body. Made at Tabacalera La Alianza, Dominican Republic.
