The Ashton Estate Sun Grown was created in 2005 to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the Ashton brand, a collaboration between Robert Levin and Carlos Fuente Jr. that set out to produce the most ambitious cigar in the Ashton portfolio. The result is a true puro, with Dominican wrapper, binder, and filler all sourced from a single origin. The wrapper is what defines the ESG. It is a sun grown Dominican leaf grown exclusively on the Fuente family's Chateau de la Fuente estate and used on no other cigar. The upper primings of the plant are reserved for this blend, producing a thick, oily leaf with more body and complexity than leaves harvested lower on the stalk. Combined with the aged Dominican binder and filler from the Fuente family's private reserves, the ESG is a considerably fuller and more complex cigar than anything else in the standard Ashton lineup. Production is limited to approximately 50,000 cigars annually. Rated 94 by Cigar Aficionado and ranked in the Top 10 Cigars of the Year in both 2006 and 2014.
