Opus X Angels Share

By Arturo Fuente

In the years leading up to Arturo Fuente's 100th anniversary, a fire tore through one of the family's Dominican Republic warehouses, destroying thousands of bales of tobacco that had been aging for decades, including some of the precious OpusX wrapper leaf. Watching the smoke rise, the family found a phrase from the world of aged spirits fitting the loss: angel's share, the portion of liquor that evaporates from the barrel during aging, given up to nothing in particular. Released in 2013 to mark the start of the company's second century, Angel's Share became Carlos Fuente Jr.'s answer to smokers who wanted the OpusX experience without the strength that has always defined the standard line. The wrapper is still Dominican, still grown at Chateau de la Fuente, but pulled from the middle priming of the plant rather than the top, a leaf that sees less sun and carries noticeably less power. Binder and filler are Dominican as well, keeping the puro construction intact. Full in body, though softer than the standard OpusX. Made at Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia in the Dominican Republic.
