Yorktown is notable for a production method that is unique in the Cornell and Diehl lineup. Red Virginia and bright Virginia are combined, stoved together, and then restoved, a double stoving process that concentrates and caramelizes the natural sugars in the leaf in a way a single pass cannot achieve. Straight red Virginia is then added to that base to preserve some of the raw sweetness alongside the toasted depth the stoving develops. The result is a pure Virginia ribbon with a naturally complex character, toasty and sweet without any toppings or casings to get it there. It is also one of the better blends in the catalog for aging, with longtime cellared examples holding up well over decades.
