Horizons

English

Horizons is the third entry in the G.L. Pease Zeitgeist Collection, the series built around avant garde and modernist themes. Where Ellipsis drew on surrealism, Horizons takes its inspiration from jet age retrofuturism, the mid century optimism of the late 1940s and 1950s that imagined the future as a place of clean lines, gleaming machines, and forward momentum. The tin art reflects it directly. The blend is a straightforward English construction: matured red Virginias and flue cured Virginias pressed together with Turkish Latakia and Oriental leaf, then sliced into flakes. The Turkish Latakia is worth noting as a distinction from most G.L. Pease English blends, which more typically employ Cyprian Latakia. Turkish Latakia carries a somewhat different character, somewhat lighter and spicier than the more heavily smoked Cyprian variety. The overall profile is medium bodied and balanced, the smokiness present but not dominant over the Virginia sweetness underneath. Pressed flake, medium strength. Ages well.
