Consolation is the Latakia entry in the Serenity Series, the four blend line developed by William Serad in collaboration with Cornell and Diehl around the goal of all day accessibility. Where Comfort puts Perique at the center, Consolation brings Latakia and Turkish leaf into the mix, making it the series entry most likely to appeal to English blend smokers. The components are Latakia, Turkish, and bright Virginias, balanced with black Cavendish and cube cut Burley. The cube cut is worth understanding: Burley leaves are pressed together into a dense block and sliced into small cubes, which gives the leaf the compressed density of an unbroken flake while remaining easy to pack directly into the bowl. Head blender Jeremy Reeves has described the result as gravity feeding into the pipe with just a light tap to settle. The Latakia in Consolation is present but restrained, doing its work without dominating the profile. The Cavendish softens the overall character and adds a mild sweetness at the finish.
