Julius Caeser Newman launched the original Brick House in 1937, naming it after the only brick house in his family's small Hungarian village, a childhood home where his family ran a tavern on the ground floor. It was a Cuban puro brought to market deliberately as a value-priced cigar during the tough financial stretch of the Great Depression. The brand eventually went dormant and stayed that way for decades until his grandsons Eric and Bobby Newman revived it in 2009, rebuilding the blend around Nicaraguan tobacco aged in the mountains and topped with the Havana Subido wrapper that defines the line today. It earned the Best Bargain Cigar award and has landed on Cigar Aficionado's Top 25 multiple times, including 2010 and 2016. The wrapper is Ecuadorian Havana Seed, the Havana Subido leaf, over Nicaraguan binder and long-leaf filler. Multiple sizes. Mellow to medium in body. Made at J.C.
